Israel will allow a "basic quantity" of food into the Gaza Strip to avoid a "starvation crisis," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said on Sunday, after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) declared it launched "extensive ground operations throughout the northern and southern Gaza Strip."

"At the recommendation of the IDF and out of the operational need to enable the expansion of intense fighting to defeat Hamas, Israel will allow a basic quantity of food for the population to ensure that a hunger crisis does not develop in the Gaza Strip," Netanyahu's office said.

The IDF said on Sunday its air force struck "more than 670 Hamas targets across the Gaza Strip in order to disrupt enemy preparations and assist ground operations" over the past week.
