Nvidia CEO: Export restrictions spurred China's AI
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang argued that the United States basing its policy towards China on the assumption that the Asian nation cannot do artificial intelligence (AI) on its own is "clearly" wrong.
Huang said during an earnings call that export restrictions spurred China's AI innovation and scale, adding that the country is one of the world's "largest" AI markets and the "springboard" to global success. Huang noted that the platform that wins China is positioned to lead globally. Meanwhile, Nvidia is "exploring limited ways" to compete in the country, Huang added.
He also praised US President Donald Trump's plan to bring manufacturing back to the US, pointing to TSMC's actions in the US as one of the policy's positive outcomes. Trump has "outlined a bold vision to reshore advanced manufacturing, create jobs and strengthen national security," Huang said.
