Israel arrests two over Iran-backed assassination plot
In coordinated operations by the Israeli police and Shin Bet, two Israelis were arrested on Monday for "a series of acts of sabotage for Iran" and assassination plans targeting a "senior Israeli figure."
According to the joint statement released by the police and the Shin Bet, Israeli citizens Vladislav Viktorson and Anna Bernstein from the Israeli city of Ramat Gan received instructions from an Iranian figure, whom the statement identifies as Mari Hossi, to carry out multiple acts of sabotage and vandalism in Israel. The statement also claims that the pair was requested to kill an unnamed prominent Israeli citizen by throwing a hand grenade into that person's house.
Israeli security authorities released a statement in September saying that an assassination plot targeting prominent Israeli officers was foiled by arresting an Israeli citizen, who the authorities claimed was being backed by Iran.
