Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani stated on Wednesday during a meeting of the UN Security Council that his country's missile attack targeting Israel was a "proportionate response" to the latter's "continued terrorist aggressive acts over the past two months."

"Israel has no intention of pursuing peace or a ceasefire," he says, adding the country is a "serious threat to international peace and security," Iravani added. "Iran's response was necessary to restore balance and deterrence."

He went on to say that Israel was pushing the region to the edge of an "unprecedented catastrophe" and deemed it a "serious threat to international peace and security."
