Iran allegedly assures US it won't try to kill Trump
Iran assured United States President Joe Biden via written correspondence that it will not attempt to assassinate US President-elect Donald Trump, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
According to the report, the previously unseen Iranian message was received on October 14 in response to a private written warning sent by Biden in September. The US president reportedly warned Tehran that the US considers threats against Trump as a "top-tier national security issue" and that any assassination attempts against him would be considered an act of war.
Trump reportedly requested military jets in October after being briefed on Iran's threats on his life and slammed Biden for not responding to the threats. Earlier this month, the US Justice Department unsealed federal charges related to foiled Iranian plans to kill Trump ahead of the presidential election, but Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi refuted the claims that his country made any such plans, calling the allegations a "malicious conspiracy."
