GCC calls for lifting sanctions on Syria
Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jassim Al-Badawi urged for the removal of sanctions imposed on Syria amid the ministerial meeting on the country hosted by Saudi Arabia.
"We support the return of political and security stability to Syria and reject foreign interference in its internal affairs," Al-Badawi added.
In response to the now-ousted Syrian President Assad's harsh suppression of anti-government demonstrations in 2011, which escalated into a prolonged civil conflict, Western nations like the United States and the European Union enacted punitive measures against his regime.
