French government spokesperson Sophie Primas said Wednesday that her government does not understand the logic behind US President Donald Trump's stance regarding Ukraine.

"We don't understand the logic very well," Primas told reporters, citing "President Trump's diverse, varied, and often incomprehensible comments." At the same time, the French representative noted Trump had made a series of remarks in the last few days without consulting Washington's European allies.

Her comments come as France convenes a second summit to discuss the situation in Ukraine and explore ways to step up support for the country amid the diplomatic chill between the old continent and the Trump administration.
