Europe up at open after German GDP digits
Major stock indexes in Europe traded with gains at the open on Friday as Destatis' final report on the German economy showed that the country's gross domestic product (GDP) grew more than previously anticipated in the first quarter of 2025. Moreover, the United Kingdom's consumer confidence improved in May.
At the open, the DAX added 0.13% and the Euro Stoxx 50 rose 0.15%. Bayer was the best performer on both exchanges, growing 1.54% at 9:00 am CET. The CAC 40 gained 0.17% at the beginning of the session, with Cie Generale des Etablissements Michelin up 1.08% at 9:01 am CET. The FTSE 100 traded 0.16% higher at the opening bell, as Intermediate Capital increased 1.41% at 9:01 am CET.
The euro was 0.27% above the dollar at 8:59 am CET, going for 1.13118. At the same time, the pound was up 0.22% against the greenback, changing hands for 1.34476.
