Dow surges 250 points on possible delays on auto tariffs
Major stock exchanges on Wall Street gained some ground on Wednesday after opening flat to lower, with the Dow Jones jumping 250 points after a report claimed the United States was considering delaying auto tariffs on Canada and Mexico.
According to Bloomberg sources, after US President Donald Trump's administration representatives met with the chiefs of the automotive industry, including the heads of Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co., and Stellantis NV, and heard their arguments, the government is now weighing whether to postpone auto tariffs on Canada and Mexico for a month.
The Dow Jones soared 0.59% or 250 points at 12:45 pm ET. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 added 0.43% and the S&P 500 gained 0.36%.
The euro traded 1.65% above the dollar at 12:46 pm ET, going for 1.07826.
