The Department of Justice charged on Friday three Iranian nationals over their supposed involvement in the hacking scheme targeting former United States President Donald Trump's campaign, according to an indictment unsealed on Friday.

The three individuals, identified as Masoud Jalili, Seyyed Ali Aghamiri and Yasar Balaghi, were charged with various counts including fraud, identity theft, and conspiracy to get information from protected devices. The DoJ said that the persons in question were employed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to conduct a "wide-ranging hacking campaign."

Meanwhile, the US State Department revealed in a statement that it is sanctioning "Iran-backed malicious cyber actors" that tried to influence the country's elections. The department offered up to $10 million reward to those who have information on "three malicious cyber actors associated with IRGC, the IRGC's interference in US elections, or associated individuals and entities."
