Incoming Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Tuesday that United States President Donald Trump's tariffs are an "attack" on Canada's workers, promising a response with a "maximum impact."

Carney reiterated his previous comments, saying that Canada's response to Trump's latest additional 25% tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum will have a "maximum impact" on the US and a "minimum impact" on his own country. He underlined that Canada's tariffs will be kept until the Americans make "credible, reliable commitments to free and fair trade."

Trump previously warned that Canada will "pay a financial price" for Ontario Premier Doug Ford's threats that the US states may be cut off from Ontario's power supplies after the province introduced a 25% tax on electricity exports to New York, Michigan, and Minnesota.
