Apple's Find My lets users share location with third parties
Apple Inc. announced on Monday that its new iOS feature, Share Item Location, will allow users to securely share the location of an AirTad or Find My network accessory with third parties, such as airlines, to find and recover lost items.
The tech giant stated that the new feature is currently available in most regions globally to those who use the public beta of iOS 18.2 but will soon be available to all users as a free software update. Find My also ensures that the sharing of the location will be automatically disabled once the lost item is recovered. Otherwise, it will expire after seven days, but users can also turn it off manually.
"With Share Item Location, we're excited to give users a new way to easily share this information directly with third parties like airlines, all while protecting their privacy," Apple's senior vice president of Services, Eddy Cue, said.
