Amazon.com Inc. plans to halt some of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs as a part of its initiative of "winding down outdated programs and materials," the CNBC reported on Friday, citing an internal note given to the company's staffers by Amazon's Vice President of Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Candi Castleberry.

"Rather than have individual groups build programs, we are focusing on programs with proven outcomes – and we also aim to foster a more truly inclusive culture," Castleberry said in the note, calling the approach an "evolution to 'built in' and 'born inclusive,' instead of 'bolted on.'"

Earlier today, Meta Platforms Inc. also announced it will end its DEI programs in an internal memo sent to its employees. The company cited the current "legal and policy landscape" surrounding DEI efforts in the United States as the reason for closing the programs.
