Amazon confirmed on Tuesday that it had considered displaying import charges on products sold through its website. However, the company clarified that this plan was "never approved and will not happen."
The statement follows the White House's criticism of Amazon's intention to display tariff costs from the Trump era on product listings.
"The team operating our ultra-low-cost Amazon Haul store considered listing import charges on select products," Amazon spokesperson Tim Doyle said in a statement to CNBC. "This proposal was never approved and will not occur."
