Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Ata on Tuesday called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Iran, urging both nations to avoid further escalation.
The two leaders emphasized the need to prevent the expansion of the conflict, which has caused growing civilian casualties and regional instability. According to a Russian Foreign Ministry statement, Egypt welcomed Russia's willingness to mediate a diplomatic solution.
The call followed Israel's June 13 airstrikes targeting Iran's nuclear facilities, top scientists, and military assets, based on accusations that Iran's nuclear program was nearing a "point of no return."
