Meta Platforms is restructuring its AI divisions in order to gain the competitive edge, Axios reported on Tuesday, citing an internal memo.

The company will now split its AI work between two core teams: an AI products unit led by Connor Hayes, and an AGI Foundations group co-headed by Ahmad Al-Dahle and Amir Frenkel. The AI products team will oversee Meta AI, its AI Studio, and in-app features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Meanwhile, the AGI Foundations group will focus on foundational technologies like the Llama models, as well as advancements in reasoning, voice, and multimedia. Meta's research arm, FAIR, will continue to operate independently.
