Iran condemned Washington's recent sanctions imposed on its oil sector, labeling them "illegal" and as a further attempt to undermine Iran's economy, AFP reported.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei is said to have defended the missile strike, asserting that Iran's actions were necessary and justified.

The sanctions on companies and vessels are connected to Iran's oil and petrochemical sectors. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen stated the measures aim to disrupt Iran's efforts to finance its military activities and nuclear program.
