China's Ministry of Commerce condemned on Thursday new US tariffs as "vile" and "unilateralist," accusing Washington of escalating global trade tensions.

During a regular press conference, ministry spokesperson He Yongqian said China is ready to work with other nations against trade protectionism and would take necessary measures to defend its interests.

The remarks followed US President Donald Trump's decision to proceed with 10% tariffs on Chinese goods despite delaying a threatened 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada for 30 days.
