Borrell to ask EU members to boost Ukraine support
European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated on Saturday he will ask the defense ministers of the bloc's members, who will gather for a meeting the upcoming week, to boost their military support for Ukraine and help it repel Russia's military operation.
Speaking at a press conference during his visit to Kiev, Borrell reiterated that maintaining Ukraine's independence and sovereignty also guarantees peace in the rest of Europe. Furthermore, the diplomat praised Kiev for its dedication to becoming a member of the EU, noting that, despite the conflict, it managed to make progress in certain key areas of reform.
Earlier this week, the European Council announced the extension of the mandate of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) for another two years.
